WILL "THEY" BE "WE"?

                                                            


                                                           It is again one of those times

When only silence endures

In love are beating two hearts

Yet the next step no one procures…….

 

First he wasn’t ready, now isn’t his family

Well, what about her?

Just like the river water

She just remains situation-friendly.

 

Arranged was the situation before

But now there is love…yet

Not for each other, they take stand ‘cz

One believes in natural selection, other is destiny

With aged parents, both avoiding a mutiny!

 

He doesn’t utter anything even to let her go

To all questions, there is neither a ‘yes’

Nor a ‘no’;

Life isn’t a bed of roses

But..

Having a partner always eases

So even if this isn’t choice, only necessity

Shouldn’t they relieve each other that the wait ceases?!!

 

The memory of his first touch

Still brings her gooseflesh and shiver

Accepted him lifetime mate; didn’t think much

The future imagined together with fervor

Once again seems bleak

Like always

Will they never get what they seek?

Referred alone a “he” and “she”

Will “They” be “We”?

A farewell gift to Abshar Bhai

Dr. Abshar Hasan – one of the most hardworking human beings that I have met in my journey of life. Calling him a legend would be probably too much isn’t it? But we can actually call him “The” Abshar Hasan. When I saw this 6 feet something inches muscular guy during my PhD interviews at IIT Guwahati, the first thought was that – if such older (and big) people are interviewing here, where will a fresher like me hold a chance!! But fate had other plans – not only were both of us selected at IITG but we ended up sharing nearby labs. I really don’t know where to start as I don’t really know him from his early days. In fact it was only yesterday (after 4 and half years) when I came to know that he was working as a sales executive for Nestle in Punjab. So I will just go with the flow. He was one of the very first (and also probably the best) guys with whom I bonded in my 2014 PhD batch but I had never imagined  this bond to grow so much. Was it for our love for food, I wonder????

Zain Ramadan 2018 commercial: The hype and the reality

The holy month, Ramadan or Ramzan of the Islamic calendar ended some months back and billions of Muslims all over the world were fasting all over the world from dawn to dusk. With the onset of Ramadan, we usually see various new products, particularly food items, in the market for sale. This year however, it was not food items but another commercial that has taken YouTube by storm.   The Zain Telecom Company, which is a Kuwaiti company, releases an Arabic video (with English subtitles of course) every year on Ramadan just like Surf Excel. I had not really watched the previous years’ videos but I believe they are usually to be based on the current status of the Muslim nations. The 2018 commercial by Zain entitled “Mr. President” however, is something more than just a commercial. GROWING THROUGH BOOKS

A very famous saying goes “A book is a gift that you can open again”. As a 90s kid, I used to read short stories, fairy tales, Aesop fables that I had been gifted by relatives or that I used to buy from our school on the day of Parent-Teacher Meet in August every year. But it was only in the year 2002 (age 11), when I was captivated by the idea of “reading” and that book was J.K Rowling’s “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone”. And that book opened many doors into the world of reading – from Harry Potter, to Nancy Drew, Enid Blyton’s Famous Five, Hardy Boys – it was a reading marathon or spree. I started to eagerly wait for December every year for the Annual Book fair of Guwahati. I wished my sister to say that she needed something from Pan bazar so that I could tag along with my mother and cajole her for a little indulgence in “Western Book Depot”.
