THE UNION "ONLY DESIRED"

There was once a lad

With a mouth little twisted

Remained his family with him, sad

A search spree they had started

That even two years hence didn’t finish!

Many maidens he met, not one chosen

His desire probably himself he forgotten

His predecessor unwell, his mother rushing to see him wed.

The next they approached in the same city grand…

Their enthusiasm saw no bound

Finally, the perfect maiden for their lad

They had found.

Initially unwilling the virgin lass

Agreed to give this proposal a chance

Mature she was, two meetings hence

Told her mother – this man wasn’t for nuptial dance

With the rules of patriarchy in mind

Her mother said

“You may be wrong; he is one of a kind….”

Highly educated though she was, never kept a tinge of pride

Gave this relationship a fair chance to ride

Her emotions her love were always extreme

Wholeheartedly made the lad feel special

Accepted him as the “man of her dream”

Only for him, in fine clothes she dressed

Treated herself to skin essences and cream

Qualified less he was…..yet she agreed

A residence in the same city post marriage

Her mother’s burdens can be freed!

Post festivities, he offered her a positive sign

Her family over-joyed, marriage was soon on the cards

Yet something was amiss, she could read between the lines

What happened next was her worst nightmare

Rejection after rejection he gave without a reason clear..

That's words dwindled, with no links

Yet the benefit of the doubt she gave and continued to pursue

“Not everything we desire, get from our men”- told her sister in ink

All adjustments to be made, to her words – she remained true

Talk spread among masses about this union

The wolfish ones threw her reputation to ruin;

Yet, she hoped – he was responsible enough

He was a modern treasurer

On his decision and belief, he would stand tough!!

Alas! This was something not be had

Never imagined the lass - her care, her love

He interpreted as “bad”

He asked “What she saw in him”

Beyond his character, nothing else she had seen

She wasn’t a gold-digger, her individual reputation enough for her

A house she could afford herself, as well as a car.

She wasn't a person planning holiday in Maldives

Only the commitment through exchange of rings...

She had heard - Her permanent job was his trouble; she had thought

“Work-from-home” only for him she sought!

Yet, he didn’t respect any of it

Called her a “trouble-maker”

Couldn’t make him understand

She had always been a lover…a giver!

These whole long months strengthened her belief

He had stamped it – she thought with relief.

Maybe he hoped for a pretty, young lass

Why her – graduating the same class

How good it would on his CV of matrimony

"Rejected someone from ivy institute of the country"

His value would be hugely raised

That's on what choices of grooms are based

She had always known, he made her clearly see

“Getting the stronger gender’s love and care

Has been not written for me!!”
